Tallahassee — The
Florida Hospital Association announced the 2007 Hospital Heroes
Award recipients.
This year's
honorees will participate in a gala celebration in Orlando on October 16,
2008. One of the ten Heroes will be named Hero of the
Year at the gala and will be introduced to the FHA membership at Friday
morning's session of of the FHA
Annual Meeting on October 17, 2008.
This
year's gala keynote speaker is Melanie Bloom,
national spokesperson for the
Coalition to Prevent Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
On April 5, 2003, Melanie’s husband, David – an NBC correspondent
and 39-year-old father of three – died from DVT while covering the war
in Iraq. Melanie had never heard of DVT prior to David’s untimely
death. The more she learned about DVT and the complication that took her
husband’s life, the more she wanted to actively help others. Melanie
will share her story and recognize the efforts and commitment of our Hospital
Heroes.
The Hospital Hero recognition
program honors ten hospital employees, selected by a team of out-of-state
judges, based on essays submitted by hospital co-workers. Listed below
